Pastel Paintings
Intensely alive paintings in pastel of beloved local scenery, with seascapes a specialty.
As a lifelong artist I have changed course countless times and worked in many different mediums, including oil paint, clay, concrete and now pastels. I feel that all of these years of exploration have finally led me to the culmination of my craft, combining my love for the beauty of the North Coast which has been my home for more than 50 years, and my love of photography, with the special tactile qualities of pastel, which allow for directness, spontaneity and flexibility.
I am continually rediscovering the joy of applying color to paper to capture the shape and movement of trees, the land and water, and the ever changing light. More and more the focus of my work has become the water, which I feel in every part of me. This is probably due to growing up in a sailing family and having spent a lot of time on, in and around water. When I paint waves I feel that movement and I move with it.
It is such a privilege to live and work in such a magnificent environment, and to be able to have that beauty be the focus of my work.
