Kathleen Alexander Bio

•BS in Biochemistry from San Francisco State University. Studied watercolor painting with photorealist James Torlakson at Skyline Community College. Received a one-year scholarship to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. 

•Began teaching watercolor classes and workshops in 2006. 

•Participated in fine art festivals from 2006 through 2016. 

•Signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, and the Northwest Watercolor Society. Served on the Board of the National Watercolor Society as Awards Director, 2022-2023. 

•Member of North American Watercolor Artists comprised of watercolor artists Carol Carter, Mark Mehaffey, Keiko Tanabe, Thomas W. Schaller, (the late) Nicholas Simmons. Our group was among the first to represent the U.S. in international watercolor exhibitions. In 2012, we also held a group show outside Washington D.C.

•Included in eight issues of “Splash” (issues 12,14,15,16,18,19,20, 21. (Splash 21 was published as a magazine.) Featured in Watercolor Artist Magazine in 2010, 2014, and May 2021 where my painting was selected for the magazine’s cover. 

•Faculty member: “Watercolor Live” 2022 presented by Streamline Publishing.

•Represented by the Village Galleries, Lahaina, Maui from 2010 until the fire in 2023.

•Included in “Fabriano in Acquarello” in Italy, 2024.
